On defense, avoid controlling any of your defenders. Chase back with your midfielders at all costs. You’ll be surprised how many balls you can win back just by pressuring and chasing opponents down. Most skilled players are waiting for you to pull someone out of position and then exploit that area.
Patience is crucial on both offense and defense. Take it slow, use R1 dribbling only when necessary, and make simple passes into open space.
